Climate-Adaptive Construction Covenant

In 2018, our people organised an introductory meeting with a number of parties in the construction chain about the relatively unknown concept of ‘climate adaptation’. An exploratory conversation: must we do something with that, can we do something with it, how should we shape it?

In 2020, we’re going to really do it. We’re going to build climate-adaptively. With more than 40 parties (and still counting…), we’re also formulating other challenges. We’re using the ‘Programme of Requirements’ and the ‘Guidelines’. We’re recording the goals of the covenant in strategies, in policy visions, environmental plans, water visions, guidelines and wherever else it is necessary. We’re working with OSKA on norms and standards. We have an amazing website in the air with every conceivable measure you can apply. We’re showing how we can finance it. We’re producing sample business cases. We’re hooking up with new parties. We’re inspiring others to also build climate-adaptively. In short, we’re rapidly on the way to the ‘new normal’.

In 2018, we wouldn’t have dared to say that we’d get that far. But at the same time, it’s now only really starting to happen. Because the products and aids are only just ready. So we can get started, the building can now begin! That’s why we’re so happy that we can also work hard in 2020 for all those 40 fantastic and motivated partners: &flux’s Sander van der Wal is the proud ‘Process Director of the Climate-Adaptive Building Covenant’!
